Turn reseller account into addon domain
AnsweredHello :)
A small reseller has closed his business. He had 3 accounts of his in total in the reseller plan. The rest of the accounts on the reseller plan have already been turned into unique accounts outside the reseller plan.
For these 3 accounts, he wants to use only 1 main account and the other 2 smaller accounts to be turned into addon domains.
We read this thread and also this kb post but have a couple of questions.
- Is there a way to avoid account deletion in order to do the migration within the same server?
- During the email transfer process quoted below, will it also transfer the passwords?
Recreate email accounts and download the mail folder from the original account and upload it to the same path in the new cPanel account. (if the original account has emails)
We've done it again in the past but we had to delete the account and also recreate the email addresses without the emails inside. We ask to make sure that there is no other way than the deletion of the account and also that we are able to transfer the emails.
Thank you :)

Hey there! As you've found, there's no supported tool to perform this work. It's something that has been requested a few times, but so far we haven't added it to the product.
1 - Unfortunately no
2 - Since this process is manual, no, the passwords would also change.

Hey cPRex!
This is what we expected tbh. Just checked to make sure that we are not missing anything new.
Thank you very much!
Kindest regards!!!

Hello,
Regarding the situation described in the original post. The question is now about the mailboxes and the transfer of passwords.
I'll give an example so that you understand what we would like to do.
Customer has 2 accounts on Server A which need to be transferred as addon domains into the 3rd account on Server B.
For the files and databases we are totally fine.
For the email accounts now we have an issue as we must not change the email passwords so that he doesn't have to update all his systems.
If we create the addon domains on the Server B and then create the email accounts he had previously on Server A, could we copy the content of "Mail" folder from his accounts on Server A and paste it on the 3rd account Server B and have all emails and passwords transferred completely?
Kindest regards.

Sure, I don't see why that wouldn't work. You'd need to make sure you get /home/username/mail AND the passwd and shadow files from /home/username/etc/ as that's where the password data is stored.
But really, you're just doing a manual migration of the data, so I'd expect that to work.
