What are you doing for AntiSpam

We use Mailscanner in combination with ConfigServer Mailscanner Front-End (MSFE) and for outgoing traffic configserver Outgoing Spam Monitor (OSM) We provide managed hosting and mail server administration for give or take 500 SME companies.

Basic setup is easy; most is done in an hour, but this does need maintenance after installation, as in you need to keep up to date with what gets filtered. Also, without training, it is not going to do a good job of filtering at all, and it can cause a lot of false positives at the start regardless.

It (MFSE, OSM) is also on the heavier side resource-wise compared to most other antispam implementations. So if CPU and PMEM are a concern, this is not the option for you. Especially if you use its more advanced features, like its malware scanning inside archives with attachment extraction.

It has extensive search and query functions to find and troubleshoot mails. However, this is also very privacy-sensitive, so you have to make sure that if you do use these functions, you have explicit permission from the clients.

Mailscanner itself is free; the front-end software and outgoing monitor are not. It consists of a one-time payment per server IP, with a limited number of switches allowed. You do not need MFSE or OSM to use mailscanner, but it makes management a lot easier for day-to-day operations and especially for your clients if they manage it themselves.

As for the paid product add-on, the support is responsive if you mail them. Replies are mostly done in 48 hours. Do not use their support forums for your question, though; that is an absolute waste of your time.

Here is the admin guide for the mailscanner itself
