rpcbind high resource usage after recent cPanel update
Hello,
After the most recent cPanel update (about 21 hours ago), I started noticing that the '''rpcbind''' process is consistently using system resources for unusually long periods.
The process is not failing or being killed, but it seems to remain active and consuming resources for several hours without apparent release or cycling.
I manually restarted the process about 3 hours ago, thinking that restarting it would solve the issue, but nope, the behavior persists.
Here is the process information when I inspected it:
Account: rpc
Resource: Process Time
Exceeded: 154308 > 2100 (seconds)
Executable: /usr/bin/rpcbind
Command Line: /usr/bin/rpcbind -w -f
Current status:
rpcbind.service - RPC Bind
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/rpcbind.service; disabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (running) since Fri 2025-09-26 16:59:49 CST; 3h 4min ago
Docs: man:rpcbind(8)
Main PID: 1576816 (rpcbind)
Tasks: 1 (limit: 126462)
Memory: 960.0K
CGroup: /system.slice/rpcbind.service
└─1576816 /usr/bin/rpcbind -w -f
Current execution time (After restart):
Account: rpc
Resource: Process Time
Exceeded: 9358 > 2100 (seconds)
Executable: /usr/bin/rpcbind
Command Line: /usr/bin/rpcbind -w -f
System information:
AlmaLinux 8.10 (Cerulean Leopard)
Kernel: el8
Has anyone else experienced this after the latest update?
Is this expected behavior or could it be a side effect of the recent changes?
Thank you for your help.
I’m not sure if the “security” category is the most appropriate for this post, but it seemed like the closest fit. If not, please feel free to move it to a more suitable category.

cPanel doesn't use RPCBind for anything. If you do not know of a reason for it to be running (for a non-cPanel reason), then you should stop the service and disable it.
