Every file and folder in every cPanel account got a new modified date?

Hello,

I’ve noticed that almost all folders and files in every cPanel account have a new modified date of 2026-04-24 and 2026-04-25. This doesn’t only affect WordPress folders and files but also folders and files in the account home folder, including cPanel-related folders.

Could you please help me understand the reason behind this?

According to my hosting provider, there are no indications of an attack. So, it’s possible that this is related to an update.

Is there anything you know that might have happened in the last week and is related to the change in the modified dates?

    cPanel updates doesn't affect files inside user's accounts so no, it's not due to cPanel updates.

    Meanwhile I know that all files were completely re-written for some reason, thus the new date.

    It's somehow related to some server activity for sure.

    It's annoying for troubleshooting reasons. Just last week I had a malware situation and the create / modified dates were extremely valuable in that case.

    So this could be another malware situation, it might be possible that some backdoors were left open unfortunately. cPanel doesn't touch user files.
