Thanks Rex, I agree. However, hopefully someone out there might have found this issue and have a user friendly solution. Restarting the OS to fix this is time consuming and shouldn't be necessary.

The issue was resolved on one of the machines by updating Mac OsX High Sierra to the latest release. This of course also required a restart, which may or may not be relevant.
