Many thanks, that definitely sounds like something I don't want to do! Hopefully the bundled version of GD will get updated at some point soon.

Hello, You can enable AutoSSL for the account and then exclude coverage for the domain name itself (and www) using the SSL TLS Status option in cPanel:
