Missing system logs on CloudLinux or Almalinux

Symptoms

On a server running CloudLinux or Almalinux, system logs such as /var/log/messages, /var/log/secure, and /var/log/maillog are missing.

Cause

If the rsyslog package is not installed, these logs will not be present or written to.

Resolution

Install the rsyslog package to populate these logs:

1. Access the server's command line as the root user via SSH or Terminal in WHM.

2. Install the rsyslog package:

   # dnf install rsyslog

3. Log in to WHM as the root user.
4. Navigate to Home / Service Configuration / Service Manager.
5. Scroll down to rsyslog System Logger Daemon.
6. Ensure both checkboxes are selected.
7. Click the Save button.
