Introduction
Please keep in mind that the process of identifying core dump files and troubleshooting non cPanel related software with core dump files are tasks that are best handled by a systems administrator with the skills, training, and expertise required to do so for you. This guide is provided as a courtesy.
Procedure
If you have found a core dump file on your server and you do not know where it came from you can use the file utility to identify the program or application that generated the core dump file.
1. Login as the root user via SSH or Terminal
2. Issue the following command, making sure to use the file path to your specific core dump file:
file /path/to/core.dump.128373
The output will show the name of the program or application responsible for generating the core dump file.
