Question
Anytime I access the cPanel & WHM Software over HTTPS using the server's IP Address (example: https://203.0.113.2:2087), my browser shows that the connection is not secure:
This warning is present even if accessing WHM using my hostname (example: https://host.domain.tld:2087) works without warning.
Answer
When accessing the cPanel/WHM using the above method, it's normal for your browser to flag a warning regarding the connection not being private. This is because most SSL Certificates will not include an IP address and will instead use domains. To access WHM/cPanel by IP without warning, you would need to obtain an SSL from a Certificate Authority that allows IPs to be included and then install the SSL as described below.
How to install the hostname SSL certificate onto the cPanel services
Please note, AutoSSL does not support the inclusion of IPs.
Alternatively, you can bypass the warning message. In chrome, this is done by clicking on "Advanced" then "Proceed to 203.0.113.2 (unsafe)".
