CentOS 7.7 introduced an update to systemd that changed how systemd opens symbolic links. The update conflicts with out-of-date kernels on OpenVZ or Virtuozzo environments. Systems affected by this issue can produce “Too many levels of symbolic links” and "Can't open PID file" errors in cPanel & WHM service startup logs.
Consider transferring your cPanel & WHM accounts and configurations to a new environment if your VPS service provider is limited in their capacity to update your operating system to a modern kernel.
Transfer instructions are available on How to Transfer Accounts and Configurations Between cPanel Servers. Hyperscale Cloud Providers such as DigitalOcean are a good choice if you need to quickly transfer cPanel & WHM accounts and configurations to a new environment in a hurry.
