Symptoms
You will see that no "Edit" option is present for files larger than 1 MB in the File Manager.

This is by design as a security precaution and is documented here.
Workaround
The size limit for editing files via the File Manager is not configurable. To edit files larger than 1 MB, you must download the file and use a local editor. The file can then be reuploaded.
