How to update the root MySQL user password in WHM

Symptoms

MySQL isn't working, and the following error is logged:

CONFIG_TEXT: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Cause

The MySQL root password is out of sync with the saved data.

Resolution

1. Log in to WHM as the root user.
2. Navigate to Home / Database Services / Change Database Root Password.
3. Enter the new password in the text box or click Password Generator.
4. When clicking Password Generator, copy your password to a safe place, then click the checkbox to confirm you've done so.
5. Click Use Password to automatically enter it into the Password box.
6. Click Change Password to apply the change.
