Moving from cPanel v60 to a new server with v80 questions
Greetings!
We have to migrate from our current server with WHM 60.0 to a new one with WHM 80.0. The OS of both servers is RHEL 7.4. As I see, we have two possible options:
1. We can try to migrate the server "as it is" from WHM 60 to WHM 80 if it's possible.
2. We can try to upgrade WHM on our current server to WHM 80 and then attempt to migrate. In this case the transfer process should be smooth because of the WHM versions, but it raises the necessity to perform probably not very easy upgrade of WHM on our production server.
Please advise what will be the best option in this situation.
Thank you for help.

Hello @Lard, I recommend updating cPanel & WHM on the the existing server as opposed to transferring the accounts to a new cPanel & WHM server. If you update from an older version such as 60, the cPanel update process will automatically update to each subsequent major version all the way through to version 80. The update process performs compatibility checks for each intermediate version (e.g. 62, 64, 68, etc) prior to the upgrade to that version. You can look over our 0 -
So I want to collect more information about our best course of action: update then transfer or transfer right now regardless the WHM version of the source and the destination.
Thanks for the clarification! I recommend updating the source server first, then starting the transfer using the instructions in the document you linked. The update from 60 to 80 will include multiple fixes related to WHM >> Transfer Tool. Let me know if you have any questions or encounter any issues during the transfer process. Thank you.0 -
Thank you for your input, it's really helpful. 0 -
@cPanelMichael What sort of time frame would updating from v6 t0 v8 take (approximately) For instance, I jumped a few minor versions recently (maybe 80.0.10 to 80.0.14) and it took at least 90 minutes. 0 -
Hello @keat63, It's going to vary depending on factors such as network performance. 90 minutes seems excessive for a minor version update (e.g. 80.0.10 to 80.0.14). Feel free to open a separate thread if you'd like help determining why the cPanel updates are taking that long on your server. Thank you. 0
