Transfer mails from existing G Suite account to cPanel email account
Dear,
Currently, I have an email address (xxx@example.com) that I manage via G Suite.
Since I now manage a cPanel where I can have unlimited email accounts, I'd like to cancel this G Suite and move all my email data to a new email adress of same name (xxx@example.com) that I'll manage via cPanel.
Please note that both email adress will be exactly the same.
1) Do you think there would be conflict between them?
2) Once the new email address is created and connected to gmail, is there any way to import the content of the old email address ?
Thanks a lot

How much data is there to transfer. I've done things similar using IMAP and Outlook. Basically from a PC, transfer the emails from one IMAP account to the other using drag and drop. Your PC acts like an intermediary. It's amateurish, cumbersome and takes time, but it's worked for me a few times. There's more than likely an official way to do this, and no doubt someone will be along shortly to explain how. I'm not sure how you would do this if both accounts utilised the same email address though. I'd expect that once DNS has taken over that you may not be able to get to the GSuite data. 0 -
Actually I'd second the suggestion by @keat63 - IMAP would be the best way to do this, there's no actual migration tool that will move mail from gmail to cPanel. I don't think there'd really be much to it though, you'd just add the account to an IMAP client like thunderbird sync the mail (save it) then update the connection details to the new account on the cPanel server. 0 -
Apologies for necroing the thread, but does WHM support MBOX format. Google allows export of user data and that includes exporting the entire mailbox in MBOX format. Can this exported file be used to import emails to WHM/CPanel from Gmail. 0 -
Hi @Anupam SG While mdbox and mbox are similar we do only support mdbox. mdbox is dovecot's own high-performance mailbox format, which unlike mbox stores multiple messages per file and multiple files per mailbox - where mbox is multiple messages per file. You can read more information on Multi-dbox (mdbox) here: MailboxFormat/dbox - Dovecot Wiki 0 -
There definitely is a way to do a conversion from mbox -> maildir but this isn't something we support, nor is it something we'd really be able to provide assistance with, in that respect. I wouldn't be able to confirm that this would complete without issues either, we do use the maildir->mdbox conversion tool but it's customized. If this is something you want to go with, I'd advise enlisting the assistance of a qualified system administrator. If you don't have one you might find some here: I do know that a lot of people have had success with imapsync and it may be something you want to look further into. We have a couple of tutorials on this here: 0
