Help with DNS

I'm having a bit of an issue with port flooding on port 53, which got me wondering if I even need DNS and Nameservers on my server. From my registrar page I can manage DNS from there. I'm playing with one of my quiet domains, so can afford to experiment. For this one domain, I changed the nameservers to the regsitrars NS servers, then modified the DNS from within the registrar control panel. I think i've added everything correctly, the dns appears to be propgating and the site still seems to be working. So my questions are: 1, Can I delete the DNS zone altogether for that domain inside my WHM panel. (i've tried, but whm won't allow it, (says something about html being used.) 2, If I could configure all my domains to work this way, could I remove DNS server and Nameservers from my server all together. (would everything still work) 3, Would there be any benefit, ie less traffic.

  You cannot delete the DNS zone for an active account on the server. If you're hosting DNS with the registrar though the zone file won't be used and is there primarily as a placeholder.

  You could! You could disable the nameserver completely if you're hosting DNS remotely and yes everything would still work. There are some things you'd need to take into account though like all domains, subdomains addon domains etc. would have to have all their DNS entries added at the registrar, nothing would be automatically created.

  There would be advantages and disadvantages - an advantage might be that you're using external nameservers so you wouldn't have to worry about DNS service going down on the server, a disadvantage might be that you have to manually add all dns entries at the registrar.

  I only host about 8 or 10 domains, so manually adding them at the registrar end wouldn't be too much of an issue. Just one web site is a heavy web site, so any down time would have to be out of hours. If these DNS floods continue, then it's something for me to consider.

  I moved some of the lesser domains earlier in the day which all seemed to work. This evening, I moved the main domains. My only real concern at the moment is that I also had to move my host server DNS to my registrar NameServers. I'm not sure what implications this might have on services like email. In Service Manager, i've disabled DNS. I'll probably uninstall bind whan i'm happy that everything is OK.

  What do you mean by this exactly? Are you referring to the hostname? If so An A record redirect to the server should be sufficient for this.

  My host server name was also my NameServer and is tagged to outgoing emails, as the authorarative sending server - hostname.myserver.com I was a little concerned that moving the DNS entries for the hostname might have some further implications with such as SPF and DKIM etc. However, from what I can see, moving the DNS entries hasn't affected anything other than the DNS propagation time.
