creating a new hostname
I have a tld which I use for the hostname of my dedicated server.
lets say 'server@mytld.com'
I'm buying a new dedicated server hosted in another data centre.
I can't transfer the hostname over to the new server as I'll need to test that I have everything working first.
I plan on moving a few test domains first.
So I'm guessing that I'll have to buy another TLD ?
My NS servers are hosted at the registrar level, along with DNS
Is it possible to create a new hostname lets say 'server2@mytld.com', and at the registra end and point this to the new IP address ??
Or would I really have to buy a new TLD ?

'server2@mytld.com' is not a hostname, it's an email address, I suppose you mean '='server2@mytld.com'>server2.mytld.com'. If you are able to modify ='server2@mytld.com'>mytld.com DNS you just add subdomain ='server2@mytld.com'>server2.mytld.com and set it to point to your new server's IP address.0 -
my bad. typing habit. hostnames are server.mytld.com so just add an additional A record and point it to the new IP ? 0 -

Yes.0 -
@quietFinn is correct, you'd just need to create an additional subdomain for the second server (server2.yourdomain.tld for example), add the A record where DNS is hosted and you'll be good to go. 0
