does the hostname require ssl

My new server has a hostname only eg: server.xyz.com No tld's for the hostname reside on the server. The name servers are handled at the registra end (123-reg). I have an A record pointing to the IP address at 123-reg. Whilst all my user domains utilse SSL, the actual hostname doesn't. Do I need SSL for the hostname, as this will be broadcast in email headers. And if so, How would I create one, as there's no domain xyz,com on the server. In fact other than xyz.com being registered it has no content etc.

  I found the certificate I was referring to. Its the root user account

  cPanel should install free Service SSL certificates, see here:

  Yea, owned by root, and it's installed inititally for the cPanel services but you can take that SSL certificate and install it for apache as well.
