    Could a firewall be blocking him by any chance ?

    If there's no data in the exim logs for the transaction then it's never reaching your server. Either the mail is going to the wrong destination or there is an external appliance (like a hardware firewall) blocking him.

    See if you can get the full error from the end customer, sometimes it contains the IP of the server sending the error. I have seen this as some larger corporate networks where they use gateways to filter outbound email. If you get the full message, you may be able to determine that it is not your server sending this reply.
