Not receiving e-mails after updating A Record
Hello,
So I have a domain name in WHM which is www.domain.tld
Now, the user I'm hosting wants to work on a project which requires them to point the A record else where BUT want their e-mails to be sent and received from me.
So this is what I did, I changed the A record from to and the CNAME for domain.tld points to domain.tld
The MX record for the domain name has the destination of the domain name itself which is domain.tld
Since I have updated that IP for the A record of the domain name, the user can send e-mails but cannot received them.
The question is, how can I update the A record for the domain name and still continue to get and send e-mails from my server? I have tried to google this topic and the stuff I have found has me a little confused which is how I ended up here. Thank you everyone ahead of time before any and all help!
If any other information is needed, please let me know so I can send it in as soon as possible.
Thank You

Hello, I fixed the issue by deleting the CNAME record for mail.domain.tld and changing it to an A record and after deleting the MX record and making a new one pointing to mail.domain.tld. This can be closed. Thank You 0 -
That is exactly how you fix it. Make sure mail exchanger is set to automatic or local. 0 -
What happened was you pointed your domain away, left the MX record to the old record which pointed it to the same place as your domain. Glad you were able to find the issue. 0 -
Is it possible to make this changes from cPanel only? Some domain registrar don't offer access to domain management. Thanks for any help :) 0 -
@pakeydev - yes, if your host allows you to edit the DNS zone *and* your server is also the namserver for your domain. You'd have to speak with your hosting provider or datacenter to confirm. 0
