A good way to backup accounts and restore in case server is not working ?
Hello,
I was allways wondering what is a good solution for fast restoring websites/accounts in case the server is complet dead.
I have a server with this setup:
1. SSD ( 1TB, OS, Mysql, cPanel, the websites/accounts on it ...etc)
2. HDD ( 2TB ) as secondary drive where i setup cpanel to make backups incremental daily.
I was wondering if is ok in case i have to restore all the websites on a new server in case it dies the server.
For example the server dies, completly unable to make it online any more, and you make a new server, install cpanel, cloudlinux ...etc on it and you take the 2.HDD from the old server add it to the new server, and mount it to the same folder/location like was on the old one and you whant to restore the websites.
1. dose cpanel see those backup accounts there ? (incremental)
2. is ok incremental in this situation or is much ok for compresed ?
3. Is much better to make backups on remote server or is ok local on seprate disk drive ? (Here i was wondering to setup another server add it as additional destination only for backups to have remote two.)
4. in case i got only remote backups ( incremental ) do i have to copy to the new server first ? and after restore them
I dont have time to make this test to see witch solution is the best in case you have to restore all the accounts/websites on a new server.
And i never had this problems and i dont what to have :) but i whant to know the steps to be prepared in case, you never know, cuz when you ar in trouble you start panic and not thinking cleary when you dont know exactly what you have to do.
Thank you.

I think the plan of moving the backup drive is perfect. If you mount that as /backup on the new machine, cPanel & WHM will see the files and directories and you can restore them directly through WHM with just a few clicks. Remote backups are an even higher level of protection in case there is a catastrophic failure of the hardware of the machine. If you have remote backups they will need to get downloaded to the local system before they can be restored. I think that answers all the questions but let me know if you need anything else! 0 -

This was perfect! One more think, for remote back-up cuz i`m thinking to have some, i have servers is not a problem, should i use jetbackup or the cpanel remote is ok ? Thank you0 -
That one is completely up to you - if your backup requirements need the additional features that JetBackup provides it does have other functions that aren't included in the standard WHM tools. Full documentation for the JetBackup tools can be found here if you needed to review that: JetBackup Documentation Overview " JetBackup Documentation documentation 0 -
This is a balsam to my eyes. Thanks 0
