WordPress toolkit in maintenance mode

Hey there! There isn't a setting that would change a site to maintenance mode automatically and I haven't seen this behavior on other cPanel systems as this tool is still relatively new. Do you have any other Wordpress helper tools that may be causing an issue? Wordpress Toolkit is designed to take over the management of all sites, so if there are any other installer tools it could be causing a conflict. If you continue to see this behavior happen feel free to submit a ticket so our team can take a look!

We had WordPress Manager installed before (and probably still there, assuming cPanel removes it in future releases). But we only use it to install wordpress and nothing else. So I was surpised to even find that WordPress Toolkit had that feature to begin with. I thought maybe the site had a plugin updating or something at the same time WP Toolkit was installed, it say that the .maintenance file existed and it thought the site was in maintenance mode to begin with. No idea, just a theory. It's the only site we've had complaints about across our 15 or so VPS and hundreds of sites. So it seems like a total fluke but like you said, it's new to us too so i figured i'd ask.

I wouldn't expect Wordpress Manager to interfere with that - I was thinking of more custom solutions that could be present. If you see it again I'm sure our team would like to check it out just to see what's happening.

I see Anthony is on the case, but I'm watching the ticket on my end as well. I'll post more details as soon as I have them.

It looks like Paul found some possible issues with the wp-cron file on the system, but let me know if you need more details from my end!

It looks like some debugging I had in wp-cron.php (echo commands) were tripping it up possibly. I've disabled them, will see if that fixes the issue.

I had this also happen to a site, the WordPress Toolkit maintenance was enabled (but not by anyone with access to the cPanel) - these files where present in wp-content:
    • /wp-content/maintenance.php
    • /wp-content/maintenance/*
    • /wp-content/maintenance/template.phtml
Also a .maintenance file in the root directory, so the website was displaying the WordPress Toolkit text and image. Had to remove all the files and disable the maintenance mode - I am hoping it doesn't self enable again .

@gowrann if you see this happen again I'd encourage you to submit a support ticket directly to our team so we can investigate things on the system before the files and settings are adjusted.

I had this occur this morning as well. I had a customer ask how much longer their site would be in maint mode. i figured it was wordpress doing its quick update or plugin update. but i looked at the site and it says wordpress toolkit at the bottom of the maint mode screen. i went into their cpanel, wordpress toolkit, click on the Issues drop down, and see disable maintentance mode. No one has enabled maint mode in cpanel. I checked some other wordpress sites on our server and the ones i checked were not in maint mode. How can i check all our accounts for any that have maint mode enabled? i have whm 94.0.0

@dataforge - could you get a ticket submitted for that?

WordPress Toolkit is a total and complete nightmare for us. It keeps setting sites in maintenance mode and causing angry calls from customers. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening or safely remove wordpress toolkit from cPanel? We are using installatron for wordpress updates

@pathfinder12 - could you submit a ticket to our team? We're still looking for examples of domains having trouble with the maintenance mode. If you would like to remove WordPress Toolkit, you can uninstall that RPM from the server.

Just had this happen again on a different site/server. Running v94.0.4. Luckily i knew what to do immediately to fix it. This is actually the second time this happened to this client, it happened on March 10th, and then again on the 14th (which the client didn't complain about until yesterday April 19th). Edit: wrong date
