Does a forwarder require a matching email account, or can you have a standalone forwarder?

Hi Steve, You should have an email account created for the forwarder to forward the email to.

I already have the email account to forward to. My web host is telling me I need the email account to match the email forwarder? (i.e. I can't have an email forwarder without an identical email account to match it - I don't think this is correct)

Hey there! You can configure a catchall email address from within the cPanel account. This will allow you to forward, discard, or pipe to a program any emails sent to an invalid email address for your domain. More on this can be found here:

To further clarify, if you are just setting up a forwarder to an address *not* hosted on the cPanel server, you don't also need an email address to exist as well. Having only the forwarder is perfectly fine.
