Well nobody can confirm this without having a closer look at the server :) Did they perform an FSCK check on the server? Do you have backups? What did they say what is the next step?

I would second to agree with andrew.n Did your provider capture the status of the hard-disk when it went into read-only mode and provided you?

If a hosting provider told me a disk was going into read-only mode, and I couldn't see that on my end, I would expect them to provide a screenshot or command line output showing this behavior. Either way, there isn't anything we can recommend without knowing more, and the issue wouldn't be related to the cPanel software on the machine but a problem with the operating system itself. Let us know what you find out from the host!

In my experience most commonly there is errors on disk. Reboot go into maintenance mode and run a fsck on your paritions. If it fixes everything successsfully - reboot once more and it should be fine.
