Links from an external page question
Hello forum, newbie here. I have a question hopefully somebody will be able to answer for me.
I was looking at AWStats - Links from an external page - and see that i have links from two competitors to my site.
One of these is an extranet link.
Both are competitors with whom we do not have a friendly relationship. So i do not think that the links are benevolent SEO links. My suspicion is that they are keeping track of calendars or changes to our website.
My question is how can i investigate this further? Is there a way to block these links to my site?
Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hey there! It would be good to know what type of links these are. For example, are they linking to a specific piece of content, such as an image or file? Or, is it just a referral to a specific page? Once you know that, you can determine how to handle the issue, but if you know the source of the link you could block the IP address using the IP Blocker tool in cPanel: IP Blocker | cPanel & WHM Documentation 0 -
Thank you for your reply. I do not know what they are linking to on my site exactly. I will try and find out their IP address and use the tool to block them. 0 -
Do the stats not show what page the link is referencing? Could you send me a screenshot of the stats or a copy/paste with the public domains taken out? 0 -
Forgive my lack of knowledge here but do I post the screenshot on this thread or send it privately? 0 -
You can post screenshots here if you're comfortable with that. We ask that users don't include public information in plain text so content scrapers that may want to perform malicious activity don't find the domain. 0 -
Here is a screen shot of Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines) It is the amarantelva.com site that i am interested in blocking. 0 -
Thanks for the clarification. This indicates that there is a link on their website to your site, so it is likely just pointing to the home page of your site. You can look up that IP address for that domain with dig or ping and then block that IP as that would be the easiest way to stop that traffic. 0 -
Thank you, yes i found the IP address by Pinging it but then i tried other IP address search options and i got different addresses. The address which comes up with ping is the one i should block? If you haven't already guessed my technical skills are quite low! :) 0 -
Pinged the IP address again and it is slightly different from yesterday's address. Just the last two digits. Is there a way to find out the range of their servers so i can block the full range? 0 -
It looks like they are using a tool like Cloudflare or something similar for website protection, so it looks like ping may not be the best indicator of where that traffic would be coming from. I've sent you a private message with some additional details. 0
