If you're running a WordPress site then this may be due to poorly configured security plugins. Temporarily

In general, I'd expect the .htaccess file to have user:user ownership and 644 permissions. This error could also be caused by a permissions or ownership issue on the public_html directory itself. I'd recommend checking both those areas to see if anything looks odd.

The 403 Forbidden error means that your server is working, but you no longer have permission to view all or some of your site for some reason. The two most likely causes of this error are issues with your WordPress site's file permissions or . htaccess file.

one of my website is receiving Forbidden You don't have permission to access this resource. Server unable to read htaccess file, denying access to be safe Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. as per checking the ownership and group untouched and the .htaccess basic change permission are fine. dont know what else I need to check for it to work again.

Do you happen to use JetBackup 5.X ? This error often happens after a restore.

@AzeDK - I'm not aware of any 403 issues with the JetBackup tool at this time, although anything is possible. I would expect a restore with that tool to put the files in place normally and not lead to errors. If you do see problems with the JetBackup tool's restoration causing 403 errors, can you please contact their support team to make sure they are aware of this?

Hello @AzeDK, I would like to confirm the response from @cPRex. There are no known issues with 403 errors post-restoration with JetBackup. I would like to suggest opening a support ticket with JetApps Support in order to have this issue investigated further. Our support team is available 24/7/365 at support@jetapps.com. Hope to hear from you soon, JetAppsRichard

@Sgt serenity - for a 403 error, I would expect there to be something in the Apache logs on the server at /etc/apache2/logs/error_log. Do you see anything there as you refresh the page that is experiencing the issue?

@Sgt serenity - do you have root access to the server? If not, you may not be able to see the full error and if that is the case it would be best to reach out to your hosting provider for more assistance.
