Why do only some email forwarders work?
Hello, newbie here. I'm stumped and hoped this is the place where the answer will be found.
I am on a shared cpanel account (domain is setup under my own WHM reseller account). I'm trying to setup 5 or 6 email forwarders on "mydomain.com" that should all forward to one email account "info" (on same domain). What's puzzling to me is that some of the forwarders work while others don't - even with the exact same process and settings. I only want one main email on this domain, with all the rest redirecting to it for now, as below.
Example;
"sales" (@mydomain.com), "accounts" and "leasing" all successfully forward to "info".
Whereas "server" and "johnsmith" are rejected with error message... [COLOR=rgb(44, 130, 201)][QUOTE]550 no such user here
. When I set them up, I got the same confirmation message for all of the forwarders. EG... [COLOR=rgb(44, 130, 201)][QUOTE]All email sent to "johnsmith" will now be copied to "info".
But a few still get rejected. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hey there! That definitely isn't expected behavior, as any number of forwarders you create should all work the same. Do you see any specific errors if you check the /var/log/exim_mainlog file on the server when sending a test message to one of those forwarders? That log file would show the entire mail transaction, including the forwarder being used, so that's the first place I would check for information about this. 0 -
Hey Rex, thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'm on a shared cpanel so I don't think I can access the "/var/" directory. I certainly can't see it. Is there another way to check? 0 -
There isn't another way to see the entire mail transaction. It would be best to speak with the hosting provider or datacenter to have them check the logs on their end and see if they can get more details about what may be happening. 0 -

Unfortunately I have a very non-responsive host with minimal offshore support etc. So I doubt I'll be able to access the files needed to really solve this. I've never encountered anything like this before. I have 7 forwarders setup, 3 work as expected, 4 don't (no such user here). It would make sense if none worked, but having only a few work is really frustrating. Might have to migrate my email away from this server I suppose.0 -

Okay, SOLVED! Said non-responsive host decided to upgrade their servers it seems! A notice would have been nice... :/0 -
I'm glad they were able to get that working, although I would expect better communication from them for sure. 0
