Distributed account
Once again, I've seen the documentation for linked servers on cpanel 94 and now it mentions Distributed accounts.
Is it now that one account can exist on a main server and on a linked mail server, and count just as one account?
I don't see any purpose on this (rather than some security), if I have to pay 2 accounts in order to have mail separated from the rest....
It would make more sense to allow 1 account to be distributed per role/server and count as 1 (+ solo license for each server).
If it's not like that, why so many restrictions on the linked servers? If I payed twice for the account, why are the services restricted?

yep, complete nonsense IMO. I already started to offload the WEB part (the one that poses more risk, as Cpanel stores everything next to the site, thus having tons of risk for all config/password files stored inside the same home) to Centos Webpanel servers. In a while, those license changes, if they ever appear, will be too late. 0 -
I do expect there to be some evolution while we work through this process, but for now that's all the details I have. 0 -
This whole price-per-account concept would be better accepted by me and the community if it would come together with the concept of "price per account independently of the nodes". Of course, each node with it's own solo licensing but no duplication of the account licensing. 0 -
Hello all, do we have news on this on version 96? Is it different now? With linked mail servers, there are lots of restrictions on the linked server that it must have some license differences, right? best regards 0 -
@maquinadigital - there's a lot of discussion here on the Mail Node system: but let me know if you have any questions that aren't covered there. 0 -
Hi, thanks for the reply. In fact, the licensing issue is still unanswered and still remains very shaddy..The answer for that was "I would encourage you to reach out to our Customer Service group on this topic. This can be done through support.cpanel.net, or by emailing cs@cpanel.net" So, what is the licensing policy for distributed mail accounts; we have to pay 2 times the same account? Or just on the main server and the mail node is a "solo server" license? 0 -
At this time, you would need a full cPanel license for the number of accounts the Mail Node system will handle. That may change in the future as different node types and licenses are rolled out, but that is the current configuration. 0 -
so, double the cost... thanks for the answer. 0 -
Yes, at this time it would be double the cost. 0
