Disable Dovecot in mailserver config
Hello all,
I wanted to ask about the possibility of disabling Dovecot mail services without it causing any issues with external mail settings and WHM email delivery to me as admin.
I have only a few people using c panel email, and this is going to change to none soon due to constant DOS attacks and they are using Dovecot authentication. These people will soon be using external email services. If I disable Dovecot, will this cause issues with external email and emails from WHM to me about the server? I just want to eliminate this potential for hackers by using this method.
Thank you all for your help and support.

No, this shouldn't affect outgoing emails but incoming ones. If you Service Manager in WHM you can disable it there. 0 -
Thanks so much! so if I have a client that is using outlook, or google mail and I ahve MX records set on server with external set to routing, this would be OK if it was disabled? 0 -
Yes as long as they use remote mailserver and MX. 0 -
How would I go about disabling it? I have found a few commands that apparently disable it, well it does disable it for a while, but it always comes back I then the hacking starts again. I do not use email on the server as I use a remote SMTP service Mailgun Is there a way to actually disable this feature? 0 -
@Ben Taylor - are you not able to do this through the WHM >> Service Manager page? You'll see two checkboxes for the IMAP Server there, and unchecking both will disable the service and keep it from being restarted. 0
