WHM won't delete backups after reconfiguring retention

Hi everyone, I configured keeping 7 daily backups at the beginning, but after 2 months the disk space was nearly filled up and the backup process stopped running, with warnings sent to my email, so 2 days ago I reconfigured it to keeping only 2 backups. But when I checked it today, the 7 backups are still there, and the backup process hasn't started again. Could you please tell me if WHM will delete the old backups to keep only two to free up the disk and run the backup again? Thank you very much.

  I think you manually remove the older backup files but @cPRex wll confirm.

  If there was an error that kept the old backups from being pruned, you would need to manually remove those.
