DNS question
Hello
We have a cpanel server that uses a cpanel DNS only server as it's backend (I think). However, as far as I can tell, when a site was removed from the cpanel frontend, it still has a zone on the cpanel dns only backend server. I see the zone DB file, is there a way to edit it or remove it? should I just recreate the site on the front end?
I was hoping someone could walk me through on how to fix this
Thanks

Hey there! It's possible this could happen when you terminate an account, as there is an option to keep the DNS zone in place. If that is the case, you would just need to delete the zone from the webserver where it is located, and that change would sync out to the DNS cluster. 0 -
Thanks for the response, I didn't see it under edit or delete a dns zone in the gui, if I remove the file from ssh directly, do I need to reload anything, or run a script? 0 -
That's interesting as well - you see the file present in /var/named/domain.com.db but it is *not* showing up in the WHM >> Delete a DNZ Zone page? 0 -
I see that on the DNS cluster, haven't checked shell for webhost, but I will look 0 -
I see it on the DNS cluster, but not the webhost 0 -
if if helps, trying to locate files with that domain name, it showed up here: /home/whm_backup/.meta/ 0 -
That wouldn't be related - the only active DNS information would all be in /var/named. It sounds like one of the webservers in the cluster still has the zone setup locally, and that is propagating out to the cluster. 0 -
as far as I know, we only have 1 cpanel dns server, 1 webhost front end, and 1 server running whmcs 0 -
interesting, it is listed in whmcs as a domain still, but not on the webserver 0 -
If that's the case, it sounds like there should not be too many areas for that zone to hide. If you'd like us to take a look at the DNS cluster setup, we'd be happy to do that through a ticket. 0 -
I understand, but this should be able to be handled through the forum. it doesn't appear on the webserver, it does appear in the whmcs, but there is no way ( that I can tell through whmcs to edit dns) .. dns on the dns only server doesn't seem to have a web front end that I can find 0 -
actually, I think I figured it out, there IS a zone editor in whmcs That should fix is the issue and i learned something, thanks for your help! :) 0 -
I'm glad you found that option - I wouldn't have been any help in the WHMCS side of things! 0
