cPanel v98 Jupiter theme
Noticed today the new Jupiter theme that comes with edge version of CPANEL v98.
Have a few questions since the blog post is not up yet:
- Will we be able to disable "Solutions" in the left panel?
- Will we be able to customize the content of "Solutions"?
- Will there be a "Style" funtion similar to paper_lantern?
- Will there be icons added later, or as an option?
- Will we be able to add our own CSS easily?
-
Hey there! I'm really excited for this one. This is still *very* much a beta, so I don't think anyone has those answers just yet. 0 -
The most important part for me, and most others not happy with Glass theme, is getting icons added again. To keep it simplified, and minimilistic, i suggest added monocrome icons, to make it look less cluttered, and yet still informative for users that likes to look at icons to find functions needed, instead of reading. 0 -
So the first round of customization support for Jupiter is will be customization of colors and logo. This support will be driven by CSS variables/functions and heavily rely on SVG. You specify a few colors and we'll calculate the rest of the palette and apply it to various places, including SVG graphics. We are currently studying the use of everything else (including direct CSS support and UI Includes) to understand what we need to provide next. Expect this support to arrive with cPanel & WHM v100. The Solutions page is still considerably under construction, but we envision that Solutions will guide your users through the various features of cPanel & WHM (and potentially out into your portal or other products in the WebPros family) in order to achieve their goals. We'll ship a few common Solutions and then open up an API so that you can create your own. Fill out that 'Want more solutions?' survey to help us understand which Solutions we should implement first. The content links at the bottom of the page will eventually be configurable by you (server owner & reseller) in a future release, so please consider that the first-draft of that kind of helpful content. 0 -
...and because we know it's a popular request, the customization support of Jupiter will be light/dark/accessible mode aware. Expect an official dark mode and high-accessibility mode in coming development as well. 0 -
Would like to say that I like what I'm seeing so far. I'm looking forward to your ongoing development. But have a g big question. Where is your changelog or blog post discussing the roadmap, et al, for the Jupiter theme? 0 -
Introducing Jupiter " A New Look For cPanel | cPanel Blog went live just last week, and the changelog entries for Jupiter are intermixed into the rest of our changelog at Change Logs | cPanel & WHM Documentation 0 -
So.. with the massive request for icons for GLASS theme, we got another new theme without ICONS ? 0 -
I've jumped on the wagon and began using Jupiter with most of my shared clients. Big surprise. Why is LiteSpeed not set as an option??? That's a rather big miss. I see you have WordPress Toolkit, but LiteSpeed is conspicuously missing from cPanel now - even though you aggressively promote it as an available feature. 0 -
@tvcnet - Jupiter is still experimental, so many plugins and tools aren't available just yet. 0 -
I can't see any mention anywhere that Jupiter will have icons. I know it's not just me that likes (and needs) the visual aid of icons. I litterally cant find anything in cpanel without it. Does anywone know anything about this? 0 -
We do not currently plan to have icons in Jupiter. Out of curiosity, could you let me know how the icons help? I just checked a v98 cPanel Paper Lantern interface and there are 78 icons, and I'm just not sure that's helpful. For example, an envelope with an "@" in it for the default address, or the Backup Wizard with a circle and person with a tiny headset. ".com =" for an Alias. I look at the cPanel interface a lot, and have for many years, and I always just end up using "ctrl f" in the browser to find what I need. I likely would not be able to tell you what the icons are for most things in there. Sure, all the email ones are an envelope of some time, but if I changed it up and removed the text instead, would that be as useful? Please note: this is just me asking for feedback, not trying to belittle or be critical of how anyone uses an interface. I don't claim to be a UI/UX dev or anything like that, but I'm genuinely curious as to why the love for icons in a primarily text-based system. 0 -

Hey! No worries. I assume many of the devs working with cpanel think this way, in fact most devs I know prefer the command line over clickable icons on the desktop, so it's not surprising. For me struggling with reading (I handle writing quite well since I've learned to write without reading or looking at what I'm doing) but finding the category I'm looking for through text only makes it far more difficult than finding an icon. As I've struggled with words my entire life, I think my brain has become better at recognizing icons, logos etc rather than words or names. I'm the kind of guy who's never learned html coding even though I've worked professionally with web in different aspects for the last 15 years, however I'm pretty mean with visual builders.. Basically, even if I could use the search function, I probably won't remember the name of what I'm looking for, but I will likely recognize the icon. I do agree that several similar icons can be confusing but none is even more confusing to me. Hope that makes sense0 -
Interesting - thanks so much for that feedback! 0 -

Icons are separators, to help users understand the user interface and find find what you are looking for "Faster". Without it or without any other separators, an inline menu like the one used in the theme, will look more like a newspaper text. Maybe smaller icons, and mono-colored, like someone suggested in this topic. I would like to add to the feed back: The left menu in Jupiter theme is a negative space, consuming lots of "unjustified" space.0 -
I have updated to version 98 but I could not find the junior theme. How to enable it? 0 -
@psytanium - check out the updates here: > Modify an Account. 0 -
Thanks for the update on icons @cPRex much valued! 0 -
- Will we be able to disable "Solutions" in the left panel?
There really needs to be an option to disable the Solutions menu. A lot of providers do not use the default cPanel setup, so a lot of the links will be misleading and/or incorrect and only confuse users, such as: We use JetBackup for our clients to backup/restore their accounts.0 -
@snewton - I talked with the UI team today, and they do have plans to offer various levels of customization to this area. I don't believe it has been 100% decided what those are just yet, but keep an eye out for updates. 0 -
Here's our hit list for customization of Jupiter (no order within each list): Arriving in v100: - Customization of Logo & Company Name
- Customization of colors schemes
- Reseller support for logo, company name and colors
- new Customization WHMAPIs
- Developer documentation for shipping a plugin for Jupiter
- Customization of icons, including a visual refresh of the default icons
- Expanding color schemes to include text and buttons
- Content customization (including providing overrides for links)
- Customizations assigned directly to the end user account and optionally travel with the end-user during a backup or transfer. (Option would appear during packaging of the account and the receiving server will have the option to ignore customizations if present.)
- Mode support for the default look and feel, with a Dark mode

Has the development team ever realized that there are about 6 billion people in the world that DO NOT SPEAK (or read/write) ENGLISH? And that the "Solutions" page and all the cPanel articles linked from there are only offered in English? 0 -
I am on the Release update (98.0.8) but noticed Jupiter when I created an account. I thought it was only in Edge. ??? I stayed with Paper Lantern on the creation, but thought I'd experiment with Jupiter, but when I edit the account it wants to create a new custom package that uses that theme. I stopped there... due to recent other roll-out issues from cPanel dev. What, if any, is the risk of either creating a new package for Jupiter theme, or switching the default package from Paper Lantern to Jupiter? Is this safe, and can it 100% for sure be reverted without any downside? I I'm asking in particular because I thought it was not even supposed to be in anything but Edge at this time. -Pete 0 -
Re: Icons ALL themes should have a Text/Icon/Text+Icon version option! Why? That shouldn't even be a question, but the obvious answer is SO many depend on quick visual cues and text can be misleading for similarly named options (just can icons that are too similar - make them distinctly easy to differentiate!). It also helps with those who don't read well. IMO... -Pete 0 -

Jupiter has been in STABLE tier for some time now. paper_lantern will be removed in future releases, which is why new accounts are set to jupiter already now.0 -

I didn't see it (obviously) in the release notes for 98, or 96. Maybe I missed it. I see a ton in 97 (now that I looked) but I don't monitor odd versions much. So just to confirm that I've got this right... 97 would roll out in 98, right? (They are not back-ported into 96.)0 -
Odd-numbered builds are development versions, so the features you currently see in Edge/99 will be in 100 when that is released. 0 -

That's what I understood, but apparently the odd numbered version items are not mentioned in the corresponding even version roll-out change log. Correct? I didn't realize that and have been relying on the even numbered version change logs, and the announcements in WHM when a new version is installed. Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall seeing anything about this, and I would think it should have been in there. (I've been busy and was not following Jupiter posts here.) Not trying to nit-pick, just understand.... :)0 -
Let's use this changelog as an example: 100 Change Log | cPanel & WHM Documentation soon. Right now, there is no stable version of v100, but once that hits, all the updates will start and transition to show a 100.0.# number. Does that help? 0 -
Yes, I see now that the odd versions can contain a lot of things not documented in the even (release) version. Thanks. 0
