alt-php versions are CloudLinux versions of PHP which can be both changed through MultiPHP Manager and PHP Selector. Generally, Wordpress supports alt-php versions but if any extensions are not enabled, It does not work. Could you check if the Wordpress Required extensions are enabled? Also, alt-php is faster than ea-php but The Server default should always be set with ea-php versions so that cPanel Server may work properly. If enabling extensions server wide did not help, Could you share Webserver Errors located at cPanel>Errors ?

I would also tend to agree that it is likely a missing extension or configuration issue. There isn't a particular reason that any alt-php version would not work with WordPress. Can you let us know what specific errors you're getting when you try and use the alt-php version?
