Backup Encryption Security
BACKGROUND:
Many customers of CPanel have over the course of over 5 years been looking and waiting for Backup Encryption ability on the server controlled backup processes.
This can be found on the Feature Request here:
Despite following this up with comment on the thread (and taking months for this comment to be even published) there has never been any response from CPanel as to the following:
1) What is the reason that encrypted backup zips is not going to be persued?
2) Seriously, you can already encrypt tar.gz files from the command line at creation and post-creation ( See Backups - encryption of backups (symmetric and asymmetric) ) and vote to promote this request.
Looking forward to some constructive feedback!
Thanks

Good day, martin MHC! Thank you for your inquiry. I can not speak too much about the exact reasons as to why this is as I am not on the development team, but it appears the addition of new features to the cPanel Backup System is not on our development roadmap at this time. For the time being, if you would like the ability to create encrypted backups through cPanel you can make use of the WHM feature request. 0 -
Hi @cPanelDaniel thanks for getting back to me, would you be able to enquire with the development team why backup encryption isn't on the radar? Seeing your link to JetBackup implies that it may be simply because JetBackup does it(?). A little disappointed JetBackup is at an extra cost per month rather than a single lump fee but.... Thanks 0 -
@martin MHC - right now, everything is full steam ahead with Ubuntu and getting that to work properly, so that is taking priority over some other features we'd like to see. 0
