How to set multiple IP addresses as shared
-
Looking at it a bit more, I guess I might be able to set some of the accounts up as subdomains of other accounts. Though I think that may have some drawbacks of its own. Is there some reason I'm missing that cpanel defaults to dedicated IP addresses for all except for the primary, shared IP? 0 -
There is currently not a supported way to do this on a cPanel server. This is one of our oldest feature requests as well, but the way cPanel is structured makes this a difficult thing to achieve. I'm sorry I don't have better news on this one. 0 -

Been trying to wrap my head around this. Is it correct to assume I have 2 choices:- Either Setup a reseller account for myself, assign it an IP address, and then recreate the accounts under that reseller.
- Or, setup several of the domain names as sub accounts of an account on the dedicated IP. Then just setup the domain controls to obscure the fact it is a subdomain?

Those both sound right to me. I'd choose the reseller as then you'd have easier ways to modify all accounts under that reseller if you needed to in the future, without having to work with individual domains. 0 -
I just want to clarify, is this correct: Multiple accounts CAN'T use the same dedicated IP, except for the shared IPs of the server or reseller. Example setup with 4 Dedicated IPs: Server IP0 - WHM Root [COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]IP1
- cPanel Acc1 [COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]IP1
- cPanel Acc2 IP0
- WHM Reseller1 [COLOR=rgb(65, 168, 95)]IP2
- cPanel Acc3 [COLOR=rgb(65, 168, 95)]IP2
- cPanel Acc4 [COLOR=rgb(41, 105, 176)]IP3
- cPanel Acc5 IP0
- WHM Reseller2 IP0
- cPanel Acc6 IP0
- cPanel Acc7 [COLOR=rgb(65, 168, 95)]IP2
- cPanel Acc8 [COLOR=rgb(41, 105, 176)]IP3
0 - WHM Root [COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]IP1

Also, what happens when you try to reserve an IP address that is dedicated to an account? I see that the checkbox allows you to select it for reservation even though it is dedicated to an existing account. If it's possible then what happens to the account? Does the system remove its dedicated IP and add it to the global shared IP, the same as it would when you use the Chnage Site's IP Address option? 0 -
That is correct - cPanel only supports one Shared IP address at this time. It's been a long-standing feature request to have that changed, but it's such a core function in the way things work that it hasn't happened yet. If the IP is already assigned to an account, and you reserve it, nothing really changes - reserving it just keeps the system from letting you assign another domain to the IP. 0 -
reserving it just keeps the system from letting you assign another domain to the IP.
By domain, do you mean the main domain of another cPanel account? As you said, since it is already assigned you can't assign it anyway, even if you reserve it. A suggestion would be to disable the ability to reserve already dedicated IPs.0 -
Sorry, yes, the cPanel account. Let me look into that function a bit more - I'll do some testing and get back with you. 0 -
I've reached out to the team on my end and I'll let you know what they have to say - it may be a few days before I hear back, so don't worry if you don't get a quick reply. 0 -
Rex, I'm sure you didn't forget, I'm just curious if there's any answer to the reserved IP feature. - Why are you able to reserve an already dedicated IP? If you reserve it, the manual says that Apache stops listening on it.
- I've tried to reserve mine and the "Show or Delete Current IP Addresses" interface clearly states that it is reserved but still dedicated to a user.
- In the "Change Site"s IP Address" interface it states that it is reserved instead of dedicated to a user.

I haven't forgotten, I just haven't heard back from the team on this one yet. 0
