Hey there! I don't think the "invalid address" part of the error is what we need to focus on, but the second half of the error message is likely where you're running into issues: "The system will not create a forwarder, because it already sends that email to the default address.)..." Is there any forwarding or filtering in place that would be sending mail for that specific address to the default address on the account?

I can re examine my settings, I just created the account so I my have check a box erroneously.

Do you have root access to the machine? If you do, and if you're not able to find an issue, we'd be happy to check things on our end.

I can't see any filters or forwarders that would be going to the default address. Like I said, the address is brand new, and this is the first this I attempted to setup on it.

I don't believe that I have root access, only to our domain directory.

I tested this on my end and it looks like our developers have already fixed the issue in cPanel 102. The problem is with the capital "D" in your email address not being properly recognized. Once your server updates to version 102, as you are likey on version 100 right now, this will be fixed. Since you don't have root access that update would be controlled by your host, but 102 hasn't moved up to the stable tiers just yet anyway. I'd expect that to happen sometime in March or April.

Winner! Problem Fixed :) just made the "D" into a "d". now it works. Thanks.

I'm glad that's all it took! Once your system moves up to version 102, the capital letter won't matter at all.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but we are facing the exact same problem now with version 122.0.20. And in our customer's case I can't see any capital letter, nor any underscore (just small normal letters and a dot separating name and surname:

The system could not add the forwarder: (Warning: “name.surname@domain.eu” does not refer to a valid local email account or alias. The system will not create a forwarder, because it already sends that email to the default address.)

Any insight into this new old problem?

PS: forgot to mention the 2 addresses are normal ones and the default email address is set to "Discard".

I believe that my problem was that the addresses are case sensitive.

AndyB - I'm not able to reproduce this on a test machine - could you create a ticket so we can see this live?

Ok. I created ticket #95384478. Thanks!

Returning with feedback after the problem was solved, in my case it was NOT a regression of the bug from a few years ago as I thought.

Due to the weird way in which JetBackup5 micromanages restores (i.e. it doesn't backup nor restore passwd and shadow files from /home/*/etc/domain/ folder) after an /home/user/etc folder restore we were missing most of the passwd file from the customer's account. Although the email accounts were working, a forward could not be added without the proper entries in the user's passwd file.

I'm glad we were able to find that issue AND that you had a backup you could restore from!
