Quota : Storage : Details : Implementation

I am working out my quota allocation to multiple accounts on my VPS server.
I need to know some more detailed information on how the quota allocation works with regards to the storage available to the cPanel VPS.
I receive a lot of cPanel Quota "Exceeded" and "almost reached" notifications.
Most of these notifications appear to be generated during the scheduled backups.
The backups are scheduled to avoid overlaps with each other.
As such, the exceeded quotas are momentary and expected to clear up at the completion of the backup.
I am looking at allocating almost double the quota for each account to handle the transient backup requirements.
As the total of allocating double the quota for all accounts will most likely exceed the storage available on my VPS, I need to know if simply setting the quota for each account will reserve / allocate physical disk space to handle those quotas?
I guess the simple question is :
Can I overbook account disk quotas against available physical disk space ?
An answer, link to the information, comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Ah! I seem to have received an answer to my question... thru another channel... Yay! The quota specifies the maximum amount of disk space that an account can use on your server which just sets a limit and does not allocate/set aside disk space for the user. Thanks to Krissy at Liquid Web. Apparently that means I can overbook the available physical disk space. I guess setting the quota to "unlimited" would be a similar situation but a little uncontrolled. I still need to watch out for those files we have been experiencing lately that have uncontrolled growth. Setting the quota to 200% of the quota required to serve the website allows us to be warned of the runaways. Thanks Everyone !! --brock 0 -
Sounds like you've got it! Yes, the quota space is not pre-allocated in any way. Just keep an eye on how much you're "overselling" and you're all set! 0
