CPANEL-40948 - Gzip Deprecated?

I recently switched from CentOS to Ubuntu and my backups are now showing this warning. gzip: warning: GZIP environment variable is deprecated; use an alias or script
Everything I've found so far says to use tar instead of gzip in the command line. However, all of this is automated in WHM for me. I haven't found a method in tweak or backup configuration that allows this to be changed. Can i just ignore this for now and assume it will be corrected in the next release or is there something I can do to fix this warning?

    Hello, I am also getting the same message in Backup Reports I am using AlmaLinux v8.8.0 cPanel & WHM v114.0.5 (STANDARD)

    I can concur that it is happening to me on my AlmaLinux v8.8.0 STANDARD cPanel Version 114.0.11 box also.

    At this point it seems unlikely this issue is going to be fixed.

    Same issue here Almalinux 8.9 and cPanel 11.116.0.11. The system is brand new, up to date. Quite frustrating having this kind of notifications and noticing that this has been going for years without a fix. The saddest thing is that we pay for having a good working piece of software.

    We just updated to Almalinux 8.9 and cPanel 120+ ,  and still see that error log issue in backup log,  "gzip: warning: GZIP environment variable is deprecated"

    Alright - I poked some people and I have some updates.

    Internally we've been doing a bit of reorganization of development areas so we can be a bit more efficient.  My statement from last year saying this wasn't going to get fixed *was* correct at the time, but I pushed some magic buttons on my end and got this case assigned to a team.  I still don't have a timeline of WHEN the issue will happen but at least it is on someone's plate at this time.

    So, some progress!
