How to setup email in cPanel on AWS Lightsail
Hello cPanel,
Are there any comprehensive instructions on how to set up email within cPanel on an AWS Lightsail server?
- I plan to set up an AWS Lightsail server running cPanel.
- Then I plan to install WordPress.
- Get WordPress to send transactional emails e.g:
- forgot password.
- new user registration.
- contact form submission.
- I want to give the owners of the website their own mailboxes i.e. webmail.example.com e.g:

Hey there! Unfortunately this won't be as easy as you're hoping, because Amazon blocks email traffic by default: You'll need to setup a smarthost if you plan to send email from that system, and then you'll be able to configure everything else normally. cPanel would let you create and manage the mailboxes easily. WordPress notifications work just fine, but if you plan to create any forms or contact pages, please make sure they authenticate to a local user before trying to send a message. 0 -
@cPRex Thank you for replying it's appreciated. Thank you for the links, they are very good. OK, I understand about Port 25 being closed and needing to request it be opened by AWS. Also, I have to verify the domain and the associated email addresses with them via extra DNS records. The piece of the puzzle I seem to be missing is how to authenticate contact forms to a local user. Does cPanel have any instructions on how to set this up? I Googled but the results were vague. Kind Regards. 0 -
