Converting a cPanel-based server from CentOS 7 to CloudLinux OS

Hey there! It really should be a smooth process, and the only interruption would be when you need to reboot the system to load the new LVE kernel. It's always a good idea to have backups just in case, but that's true of any major server change.

Thanks so much for the reply cPRex, I really wanted to confirm this with someone else before I did the change. I'll probably do it over the weekend.

Sure thing! It really should be that simple, as it's a drop-in replacement for your current OS and integrates completely with cPanel.

I would like to hear how did it go? Do you have Cloudlinux 8.x after the convert or older Cloudlinux 7.x? I thougth the convert path is for "CentOS 7.x => CloudLinux 7.x". Or does it upgrade to the CloudLinux 8.x?

@daynight - the user would have had CL7 if they performed the installation. The installation itself does not upgrade the OS at the same time.

Yup. So the OP needs to upgrade the server anyway because of CL7 has the same EOL date as CentOS 7. Converting the server first didn't really serve any purpose, am i right?

I can't really speak to what his purpose was. The OP was interested in the conversion process causing issues, and the OS still has one year of life left at this point from the vendor, and is good through cPanel 110 which will be the next LTS tier. It is a good idea to upgrade to a newer system to continue to receive cPanel updates.

Oh. I thought the OP was clear. The OP had CentOS 7.9 and the OP needed to migrate because of EOL. Why would the OP want to migrate to CL7 because it has the same EOL. He was just wondering if the convert path would do the trick for him... Anyway. I'm just asking this because i'm in the same situation. I'm running a CentOS 7 and CL7 servers which i need to upgrade to CL8. I was looking for upgrade path and examples how it's done. Or if there's multiple ways to do the upgrade.
