Bot traffic reported in Awstats
Does Awstats report the Bot traffic (e.g., Bytespider and PetalBot) reaching the site after filters or before filters?
Is there any way Awstats can help to figure out the type and magnitude of Bot traffic that was cut by the filters?

Hey there! Can you let me know what you mean by "the filters" ? Once I know that I can get you better details. 0 -
Sure. By filters, I meant blocking browser user agents through plugins like WordFence or via .htaccess. 0 -
Thanks for the clarification. AWStats has the following settings, so it sees all that traffic to unless you tell it otherwise: 6.0+ for LevelForFileTypesDetection, LevelForSearchEnginesDetection, LevelForKeywordsDetection, LevelForWormsDetection # Following values allows you to define accuracy of AWStats entities (robots, # browsers, os, referers, file types) detection. # It might be a good idea for large web sites or ISP that provides AWStats to # high number of customers, to set this parameter to 1 (or 0), instead of 2. # Possible values: # 0 = No detection, # 1 = Medium/Standard detection # 2 = Full detection # Change : Effective for new updates only # Default: 2 (0 for LevelForWormsDetection) By default, cPanel doesn't have these options, but in WHM >> Statistics Software Configuration we offer this option to give you more control over how stats are processed: Allow Awstats configuration Include file Awstats Include file option will allow a user defined configuration file to be included at the time of statistics processing. The include file should be placed in the user's home directory at ~/tmp/awstats/awstats.conf.include. This file can be used to override and add new configuration options to Awstats. 0 -
Thank you for the detailed repy. I am on a shared hosting at GoDaddy: Operating System & Version: Linux and cPanel & WHM Version: 102.0 (build 24). Would I be correct in assuming the following? 1. The traffic I see in AWStats is the traffic prior to any Bot traffic blocked by WordFence or .htaccess. 2. There is no way to figure out the type and magnitude of Bot traffic blocked by WordFence or .htaccess. 0 -
Ah, if you're on shared hosting that changes everything. You'd have to speak with GoDaddy to confirm those details. Normally I would say "yes" to 1 and "it depends" for 2, but being on a shared account at a host that is known to customize things, I really can't say for sure. 0 -
