Recover email from mdbox files

A client zipped up their mail directory for archiving and now needs to recover the email. Their hosting account no longer exists. Is there anyway of extracting the email out to text, pdf, or anything humanly readable? Any help appreciated.

  Hey there! When you say "the mail directory" do you mean /home/username/mail on their cPanel account? If so, no, there isn't going to be an easy way to convert those as they likely use the dbox storage method which encodes the emails and mailboxes. It would be easiest to place the files in a cPanel account and read them there if that is an option.
