    To answer your question, cPanel recommends that both servers be on the same version. Having said that, we have transferred lots of accounts from lesser versions of cPanel to higher versions and not had issues. If you try to transfer the server config (things like Apache, MySQL, Exim settings) that "could" lead to problems and versions/settings might not line up correctly. cPanel has always been pretty backwards compatible with account restoration.
