Moving to a new server. How do I proceed with nameservers
Hi,
I have the this situation:
Server A, lets say with IP 149.149.149.149
I use ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com as nameserver
I have moved all the sites to a new server B, lets say with IP 150.150.150.150
In Godaddy ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com point to 149.149.149.149
In server A I have moved all the sites to server B,suspended all sites and changed A records, MX, etc from each domain to the new IP 150.150.150.150 (WHM TRANSFER TOOL DID THAT)
Until this, everything was working fine.
But NOW:
Now, I changed in WHM from server A, from "DNS ZONE MANAGER" the IPs of ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com from 149.149.149.149 to 150.150.150.150
Some clients are telling me that thei websites where not available .. with "Gateway Timeout" error. Or that some sites have to load 15 seconds until the site enters.
I tried to change in Godaddy the glue records of ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com from 149.149.149.149 to 150.150.150.150 and ALL THE SITES STARTED TO FAIL.
So I changed again Godaddy flue records ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com again to 149.149.149.149
What do I have to do to be able to change IPs and close my old server?
Thanks,
Francisco

Hi fmosse, Step 1: First register your nameservers with new IP 150.150.150.150 by adding gluerecords at Godaddy. ns1.mydomain.com -> 150.150.150.150 ns2.mydomain.com -> 150.150.150.150 Step 2: Then login to the WHM of new server (150.150.150.150). Step 3: Go to DNS zone manager Step 4: Navigate to the domain which is associated with nameserver. Step 5: Add A record for ns1 and ns2 to new server IP 150.150.150.150 Step 6: Determine whether or not the IP address of "ns1.mydomain.com" has been updated using an online tool For example: DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Checker Tool Thanks 0 -
This is really strange. I have done this steps, the A records are created in the new server. But the websites go down. and when I try to enter to DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Checker Tool and test ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com half of the results have a RED CROSS and half a half a GREEN OK. I can"t understand the cause. I have to go back and put old GLUE RECORDS in Godaddy again. But now in OLD and NEW server I have A RECORDS for ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com pointing to NEW IP. And GLUE RECORDS in Godaddy pointing to OLD IP The problem is that SOME websites have a 15 seconds delay to access. It is because the ISP has problem trying to understand where is the website hosted? (I also have in the old server all the accounts suspended and ponting with a A record to the new IP) 0 -
Hi Fmosse, Once we changed the glue records for namservers at Godaddy to new server IP (150.150.150.150), DNS will only manage from the new server. The records which is available at old server will not work at that time. Additionally, it'll take atleast 24 to 48hrs to complete the propagation whole over world, once we changed the nameservers at Goaddy. So please wait upto that and check again via DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Checker Tool, all the location should show new IP with green tick. I hope you can understand now. 0 -
I have a strange situation: my new server doesnt process the hostnames. I have virtualizor installed. It is possible that this is the reason? (I have to ) 0 -
This one might be tricky to troubleshoot with hypothetical domain names on the Forum. It might be best to submit a ticket to our team or to your host so we can ensure things are working properly on the system. 0
