Post transfer resources error
Hello,
Recently I moved from a cPanel 110 installation on CentOS on a cloud VM, to a new installation of the latest cPanel 114 on Ubuntu 20.04, using the same "hardware" VM type of the former installation (4 GB memory, dozens of free GBs storage post install and cPanel transfer).
I used the cPanel transfer tool and the transfer went well.
After the transfer I began to tweak WHM, and when I applied changes to the email Exim service configuration, the service restart process got stuck and strange errors were showing, also if I tried the same from the CLI, for starting the Exim service.
Things like:
Failed to add a watch for /: inotify watch limit reached
exim.service: Failed to set a watch for PID file
/var/spool/exim/exim-daemon.pid: No space left
The "mailman" service is not configured: there are no configured mailing
mailman.service: Can't open PID file /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/data/master-qrunner.pid
exim.service: Failed with result 'protocol'
Rebooting the server didn't help.
After a long research I found this article,
-
Hey there! Can you let me know what value you ended up using? 0 -
At first, as noted above, I used 65536, and it was good for a few days, but then I got similar errors again about inotify, so I raised it to 100000 and since then things are smooth 0 -
This is all set now - I've updated the article with the permanent workaround so that should be much easier to find for users in the future. 0 -
Wonderful! Thanks! I hope now CP works to spot such issue using real time monitoring and alerting admins about it ASAP, desired that the notification will include info about the top, say, 5 processes (with pid and name/path) that use the most watches, so they will be served with helpful data, plus link to relevant support posts. 0
