Admin and pro license options for Metal/Dedicated servers
Hello,
I recently posted a feature request about the licensing scheme that you might be interested in reviewing and voting on (still in moderation).
I really don't understand why Admin and Pro licenses are only allowed for Cloud/VPS. It is unfair for those of us who have real, physical servers.
I have several servers that work with few accounts, no more than 15 or 20. Would I have to install a virtual machine on my server to be able to make these licenses for fewer accounts? It seems like a waste of resources to me.
What would be the reason for this licensing to be only for VPS?

Hello @cPRex, The answer Justin provides really only describes the current licensing method. My particular question is: what is the real reason why there are no "Admin" and "Pro" licenses for dedicated servers. If I currently have a server on which I manage only 5 hosting accounts, then should I set up a VPS on that server and thus have a cheaper license at the cost of wasting resources? 0 -
That's one option - you wouldn't be the first person to do that. In general, we expect dedicated users to have a larger number of accounts using more resources. Some Partners do offer custom license plans to go with their own hosting solutions, but I wouldn't be able to direct you to specific Partner (I'm pretty good, but no one's good enough to have every Partner and plan memorized :D ). I know some Partners offer a dedicated Solo license, but that wouldn't fit your needs either. The short answer is, we try to fit the needs of as many people as possible, but getting everyone isn't possible. I did reach out to the head of licensing and let her know about this desire, so she added it to her list. It doesn't mean it will happen, but they are aware of the request now! 0 -
I really hope they take it into account. I don't think I'm the only customer with this dilemma. Making costs more flexible also for physical servers seems fair and necessary to me. An alternative to face price increases and not have to look for another panel. 0 -
It makes sense to me, too! 0
