Error 550 SMTP Auth
Hello all;
I'm having a strange problem on cPanel mail.
My setup is:
1. A old server hosting around 400 sites and all sites with mail accounts;
2. A new server hosting 50 sites but for the ISP limitations no mail hosting.
So, to provide mail accounts for the websites in server 2, I'm using the server 1. But with no tricks. Just mail pointing.
So what I made:
1. DNS pointing to server 1;
2. On server 1, the main A entry points to server 2;
3. Every other entries points to server 1, including mail, dkim, etc.
But the problem is.
The default MX entry created by WHM points to the root domain, example.com. But example.com points to other server, server2.
So I changed it to mail.example.com, pointing to the old server , server1.
But when I try to send a mail to any of that accounts I receive the following
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<xxx@xxx.com.br>:
550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client.
550---host name of old server [ip of old server]:21054 is not permitted to relay
550 through this server without authentication.
Aparently, the MX entry was ignored and the mail was send to server 2, not server 1 as I want.
What I'm doing wrong?

Hey there! On the server you are using for mail, do you have the cPanel >> Email Routing option set to local? You would also want to ensure that is set to "Remote" on the server you are using only for Web traffic.
Can you check and adjust those settings and see if that resolves your issue?

Yes, on old server was setup to local and on we-server was set to remote.
Also dig shows the correct value.
But the error persists.

Is it possible that the DNS just hasn't updated yet and you're still experiencing a bit of propagation? If not, you can always submit a ticket to our team so we can do some direct troubleshooting on the server.
