cPanel's implemention of phpMyAdmin changes key bindings (CTRL-F toggles the SEARCH tab)
AnsweredHow to get rid of cPanel's custom key bindings? I've been in touch with phpMyAdmin devs and it looks like cPanel adds custom key bindings such as CTRL-F which toggles the SEARCH tab. This is extremely annoying to work with this. What if I want to search in the page? I hit CTRL-F and the page goes to another location. Like WTF? How to remove cPanel's key bindings from phpMyAdmin?

Hey there1. I'm not able to reproduce this in either WHM or cPanel PHPMyAdmin, using Firefox with cPanel 116. Ctrl + F brings up the browser search on my end, as expected. I also looked through our internal development notes and couldn't find anything about this customization there either.
Could you let me know what cPanel version, OS, and browser you're using so I can do some additional testing with this?

phpMyAdmin 5.2.1 from WHM 110.0.13. I'm using Firefox 120.0.1.
I tend to stay a little behind in WHM releases and I see that phpMyAdmin was updated in WHM 110.0.7 on 2023-05-30. I don't recall what I was under before 110.0.13 but it might have been some release from last spring.
It wasn't doing this before I update WHM recently, so something must have changed this fall or whenever that WHM release was made.
I will test with a "safe mode" Firefox environment tomorrow and will post further information then. Can't afford to restart Firefox right now, got like 59 tabs open :P
As usual, THANKS for replying :)

Ugh, I know that feeling. 32 tabs here right now!
Let me test this on 110 in a bit and I'll get back with you!

I hope it's not a bug that was introduced in WHM 110.0.x and later fixed in like 112.x or 114.x because I cannot upgrade my server to anything above what I have right now I believe, because of deprecated CentOS. We are in the process of going through the elevate Linux checklist and there are some bottlenecks at the moment.

The closest I could get was 110.0.14, as I couldn't create a .13 test machine for some reason.
I wasn't able to reproduce there either, however, as ctrl+f brings up the normal browser search.
If you'd like me to open a ticket for you on this so we can see it in action in your environment I'd be happy to do that!

I left the computer on all night with most of the tabs open (phpMyAdmin was left open as is) and this morning it does not do it anymore! I have not rebooted or re-launched my browser.
I tried a bunch of things to replicate the weird CTRL-F behavior from yesterday and it absolutely does not do it anymore. This is kind of driving me nuts as it seems to do it randomly. I know that when it started doing it yesterday, it did it constantly and now it constantly does not do it anymore. I tried signing back into phpMyAdmin to have a fresh session ID, tried another tab, etc... but the issue vanished overnight.

It's like when you take your car to the mechanic - your browser KNEW I was the mechanic :D

I don't understand why it would do that yesterday, it's so strange. Can we keep this thread open for a few days? I want to see if it comes back and further diagnose it if it does. Meanwhile, you might be able to finally start a WHM 110.0.13 VM and test it out for yourself, who knows... though don't you find it strange that the bug occurs in about the only WHM release you cannot get to launch on your end?

This thread will be open for eternity, so feel free to reply whenever. And no, I don't think it has to do with that specific cPanel version.

Since I posted the last message on here 2 weeks ago, it never did it again. It's so strange. I also updated to WHM 110.0.17 and it's still fine. It feels more and more as if this was unrelated to WHM (and phpMyAdmin dev also made it clear it's unrelated to stock phpMyAdmin) so I have no idea how come it did that 2-3 weeks ago, but it stopped doing it and I cannot replicate the issue anymore. Sorry for this, let's close this useless thread. Have a nice day.

It just did it again today and when I refreshed the phpMyAdmin page, it stopped doing it. I have not updated WHM over the last week.
EDIT: OK, I managed to have it do it again. What could I possibly check in the JS console or anywhere else that would explain why pressing CTRL-F activates the SEARCH tab in WHM's phpMyAdmin? This is what I see in the console while it's doing it:

There isn't anything in cPanel that is doing this, so I really don't have a good explanation for you on this one.
