I'm in the process of migrating our hosting to a new server and have some queries regarding the Hostname and Nameserver configuration.

Is it possible to maintain the existing Hostname on the new server? Additionally, will the new server allow the use of the current Nameservers? We want to ensure continuity and avoid disruptions during this transition.

  The answer is- Absolutely not!

  Here's how the Hostname and Nameserver collaborate:

  1. A user inputs a domain name into a browser, and the request goes to a recursive Nameserver.
  2. The recursive Nameserver then queries authoritative Nameservers to fetch the IP address linked with the requested domain.
  3. The authoritative Nameservers possess details about the domain's Hostname and its corresponding IP address.

  The Hostname, a label assigned to a device like a server, is part of the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) and aids in pinpointing a specific location within the domain structure.

  It's worth noting that, under certain circumstances, running the website without changing the old server's Nameserver is possible. However, in such cases, it is necessary to redirect the old Nameserver to the new server's IP address. However, in this scenario, you may encounter challenges when attempting to access the domain.

  Yes, to both questions.  As long as you carefully plan your DNS changes, there is no reason you couldn't move both to minimize downtime for your users.
