incorrect SOA record generated by WHM ?
Hello !
I created an account with WHM and when I test the domain with mxtoolbox.com, I got some warnings in the DNS section :
SOA Serial Number Format is Invalid
SOA Expire Value out of recommended range
I would like to know if I can change those values manually in the DNS zone for domains that already exists in WHM. What would you recommended to me ?
For future added domains, could WHM generate those values "correctly" to be fully accepted by the tests ?
Thanks in advance !

Hello, The default entries are suitable. Keep in mind those are warnings, and not actual errors with your DNS zone. That being said, you can modify existing entries via: "WHM >> DNS Functions >> Edit DNS Zone" You can edit the zone templates for new domain names via: "WHM >> DNS Functions >> Edit Zone Templates" Thank you. 0 -
MXToolbox also gave me those errors. I modified the expiry values, and seen no detrimental effects. Refresh 43200 Retry 7200 expire 1209600 minimum ttl 86400 My serial number looks like it might be based on a date. 4 digit year 2 digit month 2 digit day 2 more digits eg 2014092001, i'm not sure where or how this was generated, maybe i made it up based on this. 0 -
So you are saying to manually edit the dns each time to make the SOA match? This happens on clusters. 0 -
Could you clarify what you mean by "make the SOA match"? For instance, is there a specific issue you are experiencing with SOA records or are you referring to the warning messages from the third-party DNS record check? Thank you. 0
