change primary domain problem
One of my clients wants his primary domain changing, as his domain has expired and he does not want to renew the expired domain.
So he wants to use a add-on domain for the primary, when I try to change the domain in WHM I get this warning...
The domain you have selected already has some account data associated with it. The domain change may fail, but even if it succeeds, username collisions between the two domains may not be handled gracefully. To avoid this risk, please either choose a different domain or clean up any remaining accounts before making the change.
Thanks in advance Les

Hello, Could you confirm if the new domain name you are using already exists under this account or another account on the system? Thank you. 0 -
He already owns the new domain, both are on the same account. 0 -
You can't change the domain name associated with an account using "WHM >> Modify an Account" if the new domain name already exists on the cPanel server. You must remove it from any existing accounts before performing that action. Thank you. 0 -
I just read the above, I have the same problem. But how can you remove the existing accounts without losing mail accounts/boxes etc? This is a pretty shitty situation and not really a solution? Anyone an idea how to fix this without losing the mailboxes from the domain that I want to make the primary domain? 0 -
Hello!
I am having the same problem. A client has two domains in his cPanel domain1 (primary) and domain2 (addon), the primary one (domain1) has already expired and he no longer wants it. We need to delete the primary domain and only leave the addon (domain2) as primary.
Is there a way to do this without first removing domain2 from the cPanel?
Thanks!

Benito - there isn't a way to do that, unfortunately. It would be best to remove the domain, create a new account, and then sync the files over manually.
Will this do what you want? https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/1500001413442-How-to-convert-an-addon-domain-to-an-account
